Autumn Monkman in year 8 has spent the last few weeks organising a charity fundraising event for Mind. Autumn originally contacted the charity because she wanted to raise money for mental health and help support people living with mental health issues.
Autumn said “We decided to do a bake sale and it happened on 12th February at brunch time in the foyer. We sold cakes, brownies, doughnuts, muffins and tarts and prices started at low as 20p up to £1.50. Students and staff came and bought or donated things”. Autumn enlisted help from other students including Anthony Harris, who has supported in advertising the event through posters and emails. Anthony also helped Autumn set up today’s event and sell things. “I enjoy raising money for charity and helping Autumn in today’s event was good. A while ago I made the posters and we also went to tutor bases telling students and staff about what we want to achieve. I am already thinking about another charity event for in the future.”
The total amount from today’s bake sale has been counted and we have now raised over £130. Thanks to all the students and staff who have got involved.
All the money raised will go to Mind who provide advice to those experiencing mental health problems. They also campaign to improve services and understanding of mental health.
