Key Stage 3

What will I learn Year KS3 ?

In Key Stage 3 students study Cultural Studies and Project and will study either Spanish or French. In each topic in KS3 French you will gain additional vocabulary, along with grammatical structures to enable you to understand and communication in the four skill areas of speaking, reading, listening and writing. You will also develop a range of transferable, cross-curricular skills through the study of French. These include but are not limited to; cultural awareness, literacy, phonics, numeracy, memorisation techniques, description, narration and inferring meaning.

What will I learn Year 7 ?

Over the course of year 7 you will cover several topics:

My World

Introducing yourself and talking about basic likes and dislikes

Friends and Family

Describing your family and using adjectives

School

Describing school, subjects and the school day and giving reasons for your opinions

Town and Hobbies

Saying what you can do in your town and what you do in your free time

Holidays

Describing what you do and will do on holiday and using present and future tenses

What will l learn Year 8 ?

In year 8 you will continue to build on the skills and vocabulary you have gained from year 7 and you will also develop expressing your opinions on topics with more detail and learn to use the past tense and combine past, present and future tenses to narrate events.

Over the course of Year 8 you will cover several topics:

Expressing opinions on TV, reading, social media, film s

Past day trip

Using the past tense to describe a past day out including opinions

Identity and relationships

Describing yourself, relationships and hobbies

House and Home

Describing where you live and using reflexive verbs to describe your daily routine

Celebrations

Talking about clothes, food and parties

Cultural Studies and Project*

You will look at culture and life in French and Spanish speaking countries

What will I learn Year 9 ?

In Year 9 you may opt to study French at GCSE level. In Year 9 you will cover a range of topics to help you prepare for the GCSE course and to give you confidence in applying key grammar rules such as using past, present and future tenses and expressing opinions and reasons using adjectives. Topics in Year 9 include School and Work, Healthy Living, Holidays, Free Time and Media and GCSE Skills.

In GCSE French you will be tested in listening, reading, speaking and writing and will develop transferable skills, relevant to further study and the world of work. The range of topics within the specification aims to inspire students who are interested in French culture and French speaking countries. GCSE French has a Foundation Tier (grades 1–5) and a Higher Tier (grades 4–9). You must take all four question papers at the same tier. In Years 10 and 11 you will cover the topics from the 3 main theme areas. As topics overlap you will study a range of topics from the 3 themes over the course of years 10 and 11 and complete revision of all topics in Spring Term of Year 11:
