Key Stage 5
What will I study?
The BTEC Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing is a two year full time course, which prepares students for further study or progression into careers within the fields of fashion and clothing, textiles and fashion retail. Students will study specialist techniques in these areas as well as gaining skills within related Art and Design fields such as illustration, observation drawing, visual communication and glass work.
This course is ideal for students who wish to enter higher education direct to degree level in courses in Fashion and Clothing, Events Management, Visual Communication, Textiles Design, Fashion Journalism or Interior Design. Students could also enter employment at trainee level within a wide range of environments.
There will be various opportunities for students to visit Art exhibitions, and go on work related trips to broaden their experience on the course. Previous trips have included London galleries and museums. In recent academic years students have had the opportunity to complete Art and Design related practical workshops at Birmingham City University and Wolverhampton University, giving them a good insight into courses available at degree level and a university experience.
In addition to full time attendance, all students will be expected to complete a period of work experience throughout the course that will form evidence for one of their units of study. Previous students have enjoyed work experience at The National Wedding Show and the Clothes Show Live. Students will also have the opportunity to work on community projects in order to experience working in a variety of areas within the creative industries.
How will I be assessed?
All assessment is internally assessed by a teacher through a portfolio of work produced by the student for each unit that they study, and then internally moderated. The method of assessment will vary according to the nature of the qualification being studied. Assessment will be undertaken mainly through portfolio of work produced, both practical Art and Design/Textiles work and written. Some units will require the delivery of a presentation or being observed in the art studio. There are NO exams.
