Why study mathematics?

Did you know that people with mathematics qualifications have some of the highest employment rates and those with A-Level mathematics earn on average 10% more than those without: a difference of around £240,000 over an average life time? Alongside this a recent study showed that the top three jobs in terms of income and other factors had a common element of mathematics.

Mathematics is the science of problem solving. It is a fundamental part of human thought and logic; and integral to attempts at understanding the world and ourselves. Mathematics provides the ultimate way of building mental discipline, encouraging logical reasoning and mental rigour. In addition, mathematical knowledge plays a crucial role in understanding the contents of other school subjects such as science, social studies, and even music and art.
